About
Independent analysis for households spending real money.
WattFirst is an independent UK decision platform being developed to help homeowners understand how electric vehicles, charging, solar, batteries, heat pumps and tariffs work together. The current site is an early-stage prototype: its calculator remains illustrative, and the verified methodology and any commercial relationships are still being developed. WattFirst does not currently pass visitor information to third parties, and our intended editorial principle is to recommend spending nothing when the evidence does not support a purchase.
Editorial rule
Verdict first
Conclusions appear before the argument, never after a sales pitch
Intended review cycle
Twice yearly
Plus an immediate review whenever prices, grants or tariffs move materially. No review cycle has run yet.
Current status
Prototype
No verified calculations, no real case studies and no commercial partners yet
Principles
What we commit to
We publish the working
Every figure should have a visible assumption behind it. Production figures will show their sources; the placeholders currently on the site are labelled as such.
We use ranges
Household energy modelling has genuine uncertainty. Presenting a single payback figure to two decimal places is a marketing decision, not an analytical one.
We separate advice from commerce
There are no commercial relationships today. Any that arise will be disclosed at the point of the link, and no partner will see or influence a recommendation before publication.
We say when to do nothing
For many households the correct next step is likely to be a tariff change costing nothing. We intend to publish that answer as prominently as any other.
How we are funded
Nothing, at present
This site currently earns no revenue. There are no affiliate links, no referral fees and no commercial partners of any kind.
We intend to fund the research through referral and affiliate arrangements. When any such relationship exists, it will be named, disclosed beside the link it applies to, and barred from influencing an editorial conclusion.
Our position today, and what we plan, is set out in full in our commercial disclosure. How the numbers themselves are produced is set out in our methodology.
This site provides general information about home energy technology. It is not regulated financial advice, and it is not a substitute for a site survey by a qualified installer.
